Recommended brands

The brands AI answers recommend next to yours, how often and in which place, with the competition map.

Ask an AI for the best option and it names a few brands. Recommended brands shows who those brands are across all your prompts: how often each one is named, in which place, and how that compares with you. These are your competitors as the AI sees them.

How it differs from cited domains

The Competitors page has two lenses:

  1. Recommended brands: who the AI recommends. These are the names in the answer text, such as the shops, tools or practices it suggests.
  2. Cited domains (Share of Voice and below): which websites the AI uses as sources. That list mixes competitors with publishers, review sites and directories.

A brand can be recommended without its website being cited, and a review site can be cited without ever being recommended. Recommended brands is usually the better competitor list.

The ranking

Your brand is pinned at the top, then every other brand, most often named first. For each one:

  1. Named in: the share of analyzed answers that name the brand
  2. Avg rank: its average place in the answers that name it. 1.0 means it is always named first. Lower is better.
  3. Top-3 rate: the share of analyzed answers that name it among the first three brands
  4. Answers: how many answers name it
  5. The website, when an answer cites a domain with the same name

By default the ranking counts best-of, comparison and unclassified prompts, like Mention Rank. Switch to All prompts to count every prompt.

The competition map

Every brand from the table is a bubble. Further right means named more often, further up means named earlier, and a bigger bubble means more answers. Your brand is highlighted. The top right corner is the brand the AI names most and first. If your bubble sits far left, the AI rarely thinks of you. If it sits low, you are named but after others.

Correcting the list

Answers name brands in different ways, and sometimes a name is not a real competitor. Open the menu next to a brand:

  1. This is us: the name belongs to you, for example a product line or the owner's name. It then counts as your brand, also for your Mention Rank.
  2. Merge into: two names are the same company, for example "AllDent" and "AllDent Notdienst". They are counted as one brand from then on.
  3. Don't count: the name is not a competitor. It no longer takes a place in any answer, so the brands after it move up.

Rating portals, directories and other sources the answers only quote are not counted to begin with. You find them under Not counted, together with the names you chose not to count. Count it brings a source back as a competitor, for example a comparison portal that really is your rival. Restore undoes Don't count.

Every correction applies to all past answers within seconds and costs nothing: SEOAI keeps every brand an answer named and recalculates the places from the stored answers, without analyzing them again. Undo restores the previous state the same way.

Head-to-head by mention rank

In the Head-to-head chart, switch from Citation share to Mention rank to see the daily average place of your brand and the five brands named most. Lower is better.

Recommended brands comes from the answer analysis, the same step that finds mentions. On the Free plan it needs your own OpenRouter key; paid plans include it. Domains you hid on the Gaps page also stay out of this list.
